Delius is not the most featured composer on DVD. I only know about these DVDs that are featured on this page.
This is so far the only musical DVD featuring Delius's music. This is the
same recording as this CD. "Shot on location, Petr Weig's film is a spell-binding version of Delius's operatic masterpiece. Based on the timeless tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, the fate of the young lovers Vreli and Salis is mysteriously linked to the enigmatic Dark Fiddler. The drama is set in 19th century Switzerland and includes the celebrated Walk to the Paradise Garden" There is also a bonus feature called "Discovering Delius". This is an hour long program that traces Delius' life and career from the early days in Florida to the last years at Grez-sur-Loing. This film also includes contributions from Eric Fenby.
This film is based on Eric Fenby's book "Delius as I knew him". "Perhaps the finest of the series of biographical films that Ken Russel made for the BBC in the Sixties, Song of Summer is an immensly moving story of sacrifice, idealism and musical genious. Based on Eric Fenby's 1936 memoir Delius as I knew him, it traces the last years of Fredrick Delius, and Fenby's dedication in giving up five years of his life to help the blind, paralysed componser set down the unfinished scores he could hear in his head. |
